The Playwright: Jamal Gibran Sterling is an actor, playwright, director, and educator based in Dallas, Texas. A native of Detroit, Michigan, he earned his MFA in Acting from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 2002. He is also a graduate of Dillard University in New Orleans. After working extensively in Los Angeles and New Orleans, Jamal returned to Dallas, where he continues to create work for stage and screen. His television credits include 10-8 and American Dreams, as well as appearances in Prison Break, Chase, Dallas, and numerous films, commercials, and television productions. On stage, Jamal has appeared in a wide range of productions including A SOLDIER’S PLAY, FENCES, KING HEDLEY II, THE MOUNTAINTOP, PRIMARY TRUST, OUR LADY OF 121ST STREET, RACE, MISSISSIPPI GODDAMN, THE ROYALE, OTHELLO, TITUS ANDRONICUS, AND DIAMOND DICK: THE TULSA RACE RIOTS OF 1921, among others. Jamal resides in Plano, Texas with his wife, Nicole, and his daughters, India and Sydney, and is a proud company member of Kitchen Dog Theater.
